The Cisco AIM-VPN/HPII-PLUS is a hot-pluggable Advanced Integration Module engineered for Cisco ISR and legacy router series (such as 2600, 2800, 3600, 3700, and 3800). It delivers dedicated hardware acceleration for VPN and compressed IP traffic—supporting encryption standards like DES, 3DES, and AES (128/192/256-bit) as well as Layer 3 IP Payload Compression (IPPCP)—offloading cryptographic and compression processing from the router's main CPU. This specialization enables efficient, secure site-to-site IPsec VPNs at multi-T1/E1 throughput, while freeing system resources for quality-of-service (QoS), routing, or voice functions. The module has received cryptographic FIPS 140-2 certification on supported platforms
